I've just noticed there are only 2 days left until the contest is over so I'm kind of stressed. Heh, hopefully I will be able to do something decent until the time is up.

So this is the concept sketch for my entry. It's not that detailed or complex, but it keeps me on the right track.
I won't reveal any insights for the overall concept just yet.
I hope you like it and any feedback is welcomed. Thank you =)

I started off by making the skin and then after I started with the background I realized it needs to be changed.
So next step is finding proper skin color that goes nice with the background.
Any feedback is welcomed.

I didn't like the colors anymore. I think they were a bit too dull or... just not to my liking.
The skin is being a persisting pain as always... but it's coming out rather decent. Still looks flat in this image though.
Now then... back to work.

Ahem... anyway. As you can see I'm taking the simple sketch I started with to a higher level adding more elements as I go.
I will probably change the colors again, not because I don't like them, but because they seem a bit too bright and the spiderweb doesn't show pretty well.
I will see...

I've changed the background yet again! Yay T.T
I'm not completely satisfied with it yet. Will probably change it a million times until I get it the way I want, but oh well.
I think it looks better now though. Hurts my eyes less when I stare at it for a longer time, so I guess that's a good thing.

Next: skin - I hope >.>

I started working on the skin and I just realized that... it's almost as horrible as I thought it would be!
I'm really bad at doing skin so any tips would be much appreciated. ^_^

New background! Yay! I was so right when I said I'll change it a million times.

I like this background better because of the fact that the new skin (which looks way better than the last if you ask me) works better with the blue-ish background. I think. Hope. Don't know. *cry*

Soo... now I'm going to try and make the skin better and maybe start the hair.

I worked a bit more on the skin. I think it looks better now. A bit too dark maybe.

I started on her hair too. After trying different hairstyles I realized that the "normal" one would do just fine! And she has a little flower in her hair - yay!

So far no background changes... so far *paranoid*

Next: make it look even better! o.O

As the title says... droplets!! Yay! I like droplets on spiderwebs. They look like little diamonds hanging on silk strings... very pretty ^^

Although it's hardly noticeable... I have worked on the hands and one of the feet (just remembered about the other one as I was saving the wip).

There's still something bothering me about the overall image... but I will figure it out!!

Next: other foot xD and trying to figure out improvements.

New colors!
I'm going to go insane if I keep changing the colors XD But! I need to find something I like, right? Heh.

Anyway... I like it more now. The older version was too bright for what I wanted and this blue-ish background serves my purpose better.

I'm not done yet though!

This is the best skin I've ever made in my life! xD I know it's not near perfect, but I'm very proud of it ^_^

I'm getting closer and closer to the final image and I'm kind of amazed at how fast things went. At first I thought I won't make it in time for the deadline and now I'm shocked it's almost done. :D

I've added some texture on the wings to make them look more dragonfly-like.

After staring at the image for many hours I realized that... I don't like the spiderweb. It's too geometric. So I've looked up some of my photos of spiderwebs and realized spiders go "crazy" with it.
So.........

I think this spiderweb looks a lot more realistic than the old one.
The droplets make it look even prettier!
So now I have to do some more touch-ups and very soon (hopefully) submit the final version!

Nature seemed to have gone wild that year. So many strange things happened. The rivers were freezing cold during summer, and the rain was hot during autumn. Everything seemed strange - even the animals.

One day the strangest thing happened; dusk had intertwined with dawn painting a beautiful sky with both reds and hints of the darkness of night. That never happened before. A fairy was flying around, admiring the weird but very beautiful surroundings. As she was flying home, she turned her head to look for the sun through the reds and blues, and got entangled in a spiderweb.

She struggled to get out, but the more she tried to break free the more entangled she managed to get herself. The perpetual vibrations of the web had stirred attention within its creator. Hoping for something to satisfy his hunger, slowly he crawled to see what catch he had got that day. As he approached the web he started seeing an unusual form. Never had he seen a fairy stuck in his trap. The closer he got the more he could see the fairy.

Her skin was smooth and the weird sky gave it strange colours here and there. He was standing still in admiration - "Such beautiful creature", he thought. Days had passed and he didn't move one inch. Even the morning dew was still shining like diamonds on the silk web.

Was it love? Or just pure infatuation with beauty? One could never tell. The only thing that was certain was the fact that the fairy will not become a feast for the hungry spider, but more like a precious sculpture that caught life.

If she kept struggling she would probably manage to escape the web's entrapment. Would the spider attempt to catch her? Would he plunge his poisonous teeth through her fragile skin, to kill her and make her his forever? What kind of morbid love is this? One could never tell.
