View Full Version : Rotating via manipulators
la_piaga 04-11-2003, 03:12 PM I have a really annoying problem: I'd like to pilot the rotation of a bone (around a specific LOCAL axis) with a plane angle manipulator, but when I assign the manipulator (via wire parameter dialog) to let's say Z axis it turns out to control a rotation around an axis that has nothing to do with local Z (either it has no relation with world or parent Z!!).
I would appreciate any kind of help.
Thanks :)

Just a quick note that might not be completly relevant to what you're asking: As far as I know the Local axis doesn't exist. You can't wire something to rotate around anything but the XYZ world axis. It's a 3d thing, not MAX specific. Specifically when you roate in Local mode in MAX, you'll notice in the Transformation Type-In dialogbox that you're really rotating on all three axis..
Thus it can get tricky to get things to, per wiring, rotate around their own axis.
That's as far as I know, there may be some solution to it I'm not aware of. Just keep it in mind for the time being, I think it is relevant to what you're trying to accomplish.
