One display has a DVI -connection and other one have a VGA. Is there any difference in image quality?

Yes DVI-D is by far superior. DVI usualy contains digital as well as analog signals, if you have a graphics card with DVI and a monitor with DVI the digital signals ar eused and the image is much sharper than with VGA.

Thanks! Salesman tried to claim that there is no difference. I got suspicious and decided to ask here before buying anything...even I'm dying to get new display.

To put it in a more useful light.

Your video card is digital. Older cards that only have VGA convert the signal to analog before sending it to the monitor. Thus there is a loss of quality.

Similarly, if you use VGA with a LCD display (which are digital by nature) you are converting from digital to analog on the video card and then back to digital in the monitor. Since the conversion costs quality, you lose quality even more :P

BTW, take note that there are 3 types of DVI connectors. DVI-D DVI-I and DVI-A. DVI-D and DVI-A are what they sound like, D refers to digital only signals, and A refers to analog only signals. The two are not compatible. DVI-I is both. It is also the most common. Most video cards have DVI-I plugs, and most monitors too. But just keep an eye out.

Check the Wiki page for DVI if you need more info..
