There's a million ways to create a red blood cell but I'm looking for the bes approach to create a white blood cell. Its got lots of organic little nurnies on it. I've been playing around with methods from displacement to MoGraph with some decent results. Just curious what the masses out there think.

Take a look at this image: http://www.abc.net.au/science/photos/whatis/answer4.htm

Thanks,
Adam

Hi,

I would imagine that you probably don't have problems with SEM material. If you want the cellular protuberances that are present in that image, why not create a slight distorted capsule and replicate it onto a sphere with Mograph. Using mograph will create randomness in position and shape.

Just a thought.

Just did what Soccerrprp suggested before he posted his advice. This is what I ended up with after a few minutes.

It looked tastier before you put it under the SEM though :P

I think you'll have better luck if you try playing around with displacements, or the mograph extrude deformer (inside of a hypernurbs object), The issue with the sprinkles approach is that if you want to animate the surface deforming you have to ffd the whole shebang rather than just animating the original surface as otherwise you might get some rotation of the capsule shapes as the surface angle changes. Another approach would be to actually model it normally rather than looking for a procedural option, that would give you the ultimate control for when it comes to animating, there's plenty of ways to "rig" the cell once it's made (you could even use bones and the morphs in Mocca to help animate it).

What I do for an activated WBC (although poly heavy) is to start with a sphere set to icosohedron mode, then use a mograph displacer. Drop that into a HN. Then rinse and repeat (2 levels of HN and displacers). I then make it editable, and do some poly reduction if you need to animate, then if needed put into another HN set to 1 or 2 for some smoothing.

Hey Adam,

I saw this thread, and remembered our conversation the other day. I decided to give it a quick go...I think I would deffinately go with displacements...or maybe a combination of displacement and some smaller wacked out sphere/capsule mograph clones. Anyway Here is a sample I came up with displacement.

good luck! Love to see what you come up with when it's done!

Über gorgeous Joel...wow!

I have been thinking of starting to use ZB for a lot of this type of organic inner space work. Have any of you tried this route yet?

Thanks--your stuffs pretty "uber" too!

I dont know if ZB is neccasary, and perhaps overkill for a lot of this stuff (animation mainly), unless you are keeping things low res and relying on displacement for the details.
