Hi followed the wiki to the letter. Using the default code specified in the displacement exporter reulted in a broken bloated mesh in max, changing the code for R32 specified in the wiki results in no displacement in max at all. Followed the mentalray connection settings and everything is identicle except max subdivision level under the render dialogue as the dialogue allows no numerical entries apart from preset ammounts which I arbitrarily set to 16k whatever that is.

Looking forward to using mental ray finally for displacement instead of the ol displacement modifier. I have a feeling something has changed in max 9 by default since the wiki was written and somewhere something is switched off in my version of max (9).

All help appreciated

Heya Kanga, How goes all mate? I fumbled around for a while trying to get the new Zmapper to behave too... Stumbled onto cannedmushrooms tuts @ ZBCentral

DaddyMack Howdy! Long time no write:).

Thanx man,.... yep the pix you sent have different settings indeed. That dog has wonderfull displacement. Finally got things running, there was one checkbox unselected by default with .obj import in Max. The texture coordinates,.... DOH!

Still testing and going to put the values you sent in, but the samples look very good. Here I am getting much better displacement then the old method, even with a mentalray SSS, an by gum there is even a bump slot,.... spoilt rotten I am.

As for mischief been acting up alot at school lately. The staff want me to study to become a teacher and I aint finished with 3d yet. Been hitting the apps hard every night after school. c4d because that is what they use (bodypaint rox btw, rigging sux cept for cactus dan), modo for uv's, zb's new subtools and retopo (rox) plus the ability to import uv meshes over a z tool, new max 9 and virtools. Had some nice freelance work for nickelodeon and some interesting stuff comming up. Decided to give full time teaching a miss because there are too many apps to teach but not one properly and 3d at the college is way too small. Will be stepping over to freelance teaching a couple of days a week in a few months.

How th heck you doin?????
How is the obese project going, last I looked it was very nice indeedio.

Thanx agin for the settings and nice to hear from you!

Great to hear you're keeping busy in your old age Kanga:P

Seriously though, it is really cool to hear from you you legend:beer: especially with all that going on

I'm about to start studying to teach too as well as pick up a few more apps, starting a class in Flash at our school with a great flash teacher as well as teaching myself virtoolz... I still wanna see how far I can take Zbrush soon, got a new dual dual beasty to play with so once the challenge is over I'll be ripping some new meshes again.

My fat mamma turned out to be a fat cross dressing fella who thinks he looks like a skinny mamma... go figure:shrug: Strange behaviour... finishes in 5 days

Otherwise it's business as usual here mate, freelancing and teaching, I'm gonna take most of the summer pretty easy this year, just teaching and personal projects so I can actually have a summer, see the sunshine etc for once... unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse:curious: but I think it's gonna be surf and sun 4 me

Isn't ZB3 just insane to mess with, I'm still freaking over retopo and its potential and polypaint is bliss. I see students now just hook straight in after a few solid lessons with this version... It's amazingly open... my daughters are using it regularly too

Glad you couldn't kill off the freelancer mate:D Keep truckin'
