View Full Version : 7.3 and 10 Compatability
robcrumb 10-25-2007, 02:35 PM I want to have another animator texture and light a simple logo flying in, and will
need the project.
He works in 7.3 and I am in R 10.
Since this only involves lighting and materials will there a be a problem opening
his 7.3 file in 10 and having everything come in correctly? Or will it all be out of
whack?
Maya is his main app which is why thre has been no upgrade.

i wouldn't trust things coming from R7 to R10.
the rendering, lighting and materials have been updated several times since then and although there are supposed to be compatability modes for most things there are no guarantees.
lighting was rewritten (with better falloff and area lighting), SLA was integrated into the materials, etc.
cheers, simon w.

hi
why not testing with the demo? it has all features except you can't save.

10.5 has had substantial changes actually I doubt anything will go back, model structure changed in both 8 and 9 with edges and ngons, our object handling changed a fair bit with R10 object manager. I highly doubt that 7 will open the file at all.

Reading to post it seems the question is :
will R10 open an old R7 File??
well if the logo is just a polygon model with simple materials
I'd say yes R10 will open it up fine.
But obviously if you save it in R10 then there's no taking the saved version back to 7
