Hey,

I need to animate a ribbon tying around a gift and I'd like to find some reference of animations and I've been looking and can't find anything. Any help would be much
appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know of any reference material, but if you're using Max as your 3D app, then one way you can do this it to create a path in the shape of the ribbon that you want to have built at the end. Then use the "Path Deform" Modifier and have a flat box expand over that path over time.

thanks for the reply mef, I'm looking for more how it would look than the technical part. I heard there is a nesle spot that uses a ribbon but i cant find it. Thanks though.

I can't think of any direct gift box reference however there was a hershey kiss 'tag' animated commercial in the past (can't find the commercial online) as well as a great Absolut Vodka commercial with a lemon or orange unpeeling. (can't find this either)

I would suggest Disney's animated Cinderella and fast forward to the scene where the mice are lacing the bodice together and I believe using ribbon or a sache for something. It may not be a box shape though would nonetheless offer up some very nice fluid movements.

Being of a Christmas holiday nature I would think you want smooth, fluid, very arcing lines through the air. Broad enough motions for the viewer to follow if they decide to concentrate on a single ribbon.

Hey genau,
Thanks for the ideas, yeah, this is the time for holiday spots.. I'll try to find those that you suggested. I was hopeing that I could find a car spot with a ribbon wrapping around the car.. basically something more of where the ribbon wraps its self then a character doing it.. though maybe I'm being too picky :)

thanks
