Holy crap :O I am absolutely looking forward to this challenge. I loved the previous Star Wars HCR challenge and I'm a big fan of steam punk art so I think melding these two together is going to produce some incredible results. But as usual I will be a spectator only, as my modeling is very much not up-to-par, and neither is my hand drawing. But someday!

holy crap.....

i am so in this one......and I WILL finish this one...haven't finished one of these in so long.....didn't get to finish the last one cos i had to go into hospital...but no such worries this time...

this should be totally awesome....

EDIT: argh...damn my brain.....i'm having all these awesome ideas in my head for death stars, AT-AT's, stormtroopers and lightsabers among others but my brain seems incapable of transferring the awesomness to my hand to draw them....

I hear ya. I wish I could get on paper what is in my head. But I've got a great idea for this, a bit unconventional for steampunk but it should do nicely.

its not that great but hopefully the idea will be better realised when i start the actual modelling.....he won't actually have a helmet...i have something else in mind for getting that "vader shape"

Okay, I hope it's okay to do Clone Wars, I figured a lot of people would pick the OT, and I'd like to do something a little different. Here's an idea for a more Steampunk-ish General Kenobi in clone war garb.... obviously it's lacking lots of details, but it's an idea that I would like to model.

Here's my first round of arts.. You can click on each for a high-res copy. Maybe not the best drawings, but I hope they convey the point :arteest: I might be using these myself; I'll have decided by tomorrow probably. I still have a few more ideas waiting to be fleshed out first before I can choose.

Okay,

I'm not a concept artist but i just had to give it a try. I wanna do a walker and so i did my best to get the base idea on canvas. I still dislike many parts but these will be corrected when starting the modeling.

I just hope it's steampunk enough

the idea by the way is that the zeppelin inspired body is the main thing that makes the walker stand up tall. The legs give minimum support and are used to 'walk'

cheers

If your just looking for steampunk references don't forget about Steamboy (http://video.google.com/videosearch?gbv=2&hl=en&resnum=0&q=steamboy&ie=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wv#). I think I'll rewatch this tonight.

Bjorn, those concepts are fantastic. I hadn't seen the Chewbacca one till just now. I hope these all get modeled.

all right, I'm sure this will be just the first of many many designs for our beloved bounty hunter on here, but I couldn't resist.

so here's a quick first concept unedited. I haven't done any of the hcr challenges but I just got a new computer and can actually run zb3 so I will try to learn it with some pressure on (always easier to produce that way)

planning on doing some color work in ps and designing props in more detail. apologize for the image quality, scanner just crapped out on me last week.

boba's ship will also be designed though I doubt I will model it, I may try out a general grievous concept also and will post all.

Wedge Antilles: Ace of the Skies

Been an HCR lurker for awhile, but this one is too good to pass up.

I was able to start this today. Wedge the X-wing pilot. Materials are mostly intended to be leather and brass with some cloth coverings. I think it is lacking a little bit of that Victorian flair (and I still need to design the chest piece) but I'll do an over paint tomorrow before I begin modeling.

If anyone has suggestions or would like to take a crack at modeling this I'd be honored!

Hey Bjorn,

those are great additions to the pile you already created.
I love the more detailed storm trooper now.

But i gotta ask: do you first draw them on paper and then scan them in?

I'm just wondering how concept artists start their work.

I went down to Swansea water front museum today and took some photos that might be a help to some one. Sorry about the quality, taken with my phones camera.

The steam train is a working replica of the first ever steam train. Invented and built in Wales to ship coal down the Valleys.

Hope they are of some use.

Here is a quick sketch of and Idea I had today at work.
It's the idea of turning Jabba into a mafia boss type character.

I would like to think of him as more of a fat slob than the sketch portrays.

Now, after seeing Hurri-cane's Idea, I'm starting to dislike mine. That one is awsome!

Here are some of the concepts for my image.
I'm going for the scene where Luke arrives at the Yoda home and meet him.

So far I have the Yoda, R2 and the X-wing concepts; I'm still missing the own Luke pilot concept and the full scene one.

Moonangel - good stuff, I could see using some of that for texture reference in 3d as well.

Definitely inspired by Hurri-Canes hard work. Is it just pencil? then overlaying gray in photo shop? Great stuff! I have been inking mine but it can do funny things with contrast and my scanner. Here's another luke:

Hello folks,

I've decided to participate in this Star Wars Steampunk challenge. When I first heard of this, the only thing that popped into my head was "General Grievous" I have decided to model him. There is something about him that says "please model me"

Do you guys have any suggestions or ideas for me? Where do you think I can find proper references that will be enough to complete him?

Yeah I know I'm kinda late entering but I saw this HRC and couldn't resist. So here's my concept doodle so that I can start modeling.
It's the Millennium Falcon and doodled with a Wacom and MS Paint :P
Hopefully I'll start modeling in the morning!

Not sure if I'm too late for this, but I wanted to do my favorite character Mr Fett.

So here he is!

This page seems to be garnering a lot of attention today for some reason. Cool steam props.

I've decided to model my sketch. I made some minor changes since my sketch didn't resemble any ship in Star Wars. I've decided to change the wings to the X-wing type. I never modeled vehicles before, but I couldn't resist trying.

Not sure if I should post these images here or in another forum, but comments are definitely welcolmed on these wips.

It's since changed a bit, but such is the process!

My mistake, I completely forgot to post my concept art. Was too caught up in modeling this whole time. My apologies.

The artist is Ben Fleuter. Here's his site. http://pd.milkinthepantry.com/
