View Full Version : New Interactive Web 3D tool without directX plug-in
viewlife 10-24-2007, 11:16 AM Hello !
The Viewlife Team is proud to announce the first official release of its new real-time 3D authoring software based on Java and OpenGL : Webseed Studio 3D
You’ll be able to see new demos made with the software and download the free demo version of the software at www.viewlife.com (http://www.viewlife.com/)
You’ll also find video and pdf tutorials.
You can download the demo version now and you'll be able to purchase if you are interested from next friday.
Webseed Studio is a software with which you can easily create rich Web3D applications without the need of any directX plug-in for the end user.
Today it's the only one tool with which you can create accelerated 3D applets.
Applications are compatible with all Java virtual machines and with all Open GL versions to massively spread rich applications.
Feel free to leave us your comments!

For a short time i tried Blaxxun years ago but their licensing were nuts and i never looked forweb 3d again. Liked the demos but seems it will not be possible to move in show rooms.

It's a little buggy on the mac- perhaps I need a Java update? I was unable to see anything until I switched to a new window and came back, and when the 3d model of the Ajax head appeared I could not interact with it.

In fact it's "buggy" on Mac with Power Pc processors and we are working on it.
By moving in showrooms I think you talk about virtual visits. this will be shortly OK (release 1.1)

Ah, thanks for the info. I did switch to a PC at home because I got tired of all the problems with my G5.

That's a nice looking tool you guys developed. The fact that it requires no directX plugin isn't really much of a marketing thing these days, imho.
Today it's the only one tool with which you can create accelerated 3D applets.
Not to be a downer, but this statement is absolutely false.

For some reason, I don't think it's possible to be compatible with all OGL versions and JVMs, case in point the PPC versions of apple hardware. Plus, you still do need a minimum of 1.1 versions of OGL and Java - and a board that properly supports OpenGL. I'll venture that a lot of vista users are going to have problems with this one, as open gl support is pretty screwy on consumer Vista machines.
All that said, it's nice tool.
I tried to check out the samples, but Loading, please wait... is all I ended up seeing. Waiting quite some time and nothing.
Is it not compatible with FireFox?

Hello and thank you for your replies !
The fact that it requires no directX plugin isn't really much of a marketing thing these days
We think it's not only a marketing thing. More than 80% of Internet users will not install directX plug-in they don't knows to get Web3D applications. Java is present on more than 90% of computers all over the world that's why we consider it's the best solution to make big applications without the need of any installation for more than 90% of users.
Not to be a downer, but this statement is absolutely false.
For the moment we don't know any authoring software with wich we can create OpenGL accelerated applications...
I'll venture that a lot of vista users are going to have problems with this one, as open gl support is pretty screwy on consumer Vista machines
For the moment we don't have particular problems with Vista machines
For some reason, I don't think it's possible to be compatible with all OGL versions and JVMs, case in point the PPC versions of apple hardware
Problems with PowerPC hardware is not due to OGL or JVMs versions but with OGL drivers. We are now working on this problem
Is it not compatible with FireFox?
Maybe your problem is that Java is inactive on Firefox on your computer. If you want we can consider your problem in details. So do not hesitate to contact us by email at support@viewlife.com (http://forums.cgsociety.org/support@viewlife.com)
