Hi guys, looking for a bit of help or some hints when it comes to lighting and mood but also anything that strikes you as being out of place or odd looking.

I used a little sketch of a goblin-like character that I quickly drew and slapped in a background using a feathery brush. Defining light source and general colouring.

I want a silhouette of the goblin so for this i need strong back light so i add some white streaks.

Blocked in the silhouette. Used a rough eraser to add a bit of texture and depth.

Using my sketch layer as a guide I picked out the highlights and added some drips.

Added a little blurred wash around the thighs to draw more attention to the torso of the goblin, not sure about this, what do you guys think?

Added pool, reflections, some rocky bits...

quick update, played about with the face, trying to make his eyes look closed. and put in some foreground stuff and some plants and things, but this might be over doing it. maybe it needs a crop or something.
Help me out, crits are very welcome.

Hello :)

I think you need to define planes first (use blurs on the things that are not in focus, also fog effects could be nice - the deeper the brighter). Also try to define the character a bit more - give it more color (different than the surroundings but mixed with these) and try to erase those blurry edges (especially those that lay in light). Eye has to have something to focus on - when you detail first plane it goes there...It's really important not to start detailing before you achieve good composition/design/lighting. I think you've got nice character here, composition is simple, but it's not bad, so you just need to fix those things I wrote above ;) I hope I'm helpful a bit. cheers.

Thanks man, very useful. I find it very easy to get lost in details so I think I'll take a few steps back and maybe start over from a previous save point.

Thanks for taking the time, I really appreciate it.
