Recently I've been trying to bring out my Japanese half more in my work, and this is the result.
It's also the first picture I've done entirely digitally...
... and I've just put up my new website, so check that out at www.gezfry.com

Anime is not all crap, and this is definately not crap!!! Great work:thumbsup:
04-11-2003, 03:13 PM
Nice work! You've got a great style... kind of a "moody comic" style if you will. The two oblivious guys in the background really add a lot to the composition and to the story being told.
04-11-2003, 03:38 PM
Really great work! I especially love the background buildings.:applause:

04-11-2003, 06:17 PM
i love it.
the background looks decievingly simple...but once your eye starts to really disect it....it becomes quite complex and interesting.

Omigod! I LOVE the way you color. Love it!
Actually, after visiting your site, I like the other works in your gallery better, but I am totally blow away by the colorwork in every picture.
You have a great understanding of depth and form, it really shows, and I love the esthetic choice of pallet.
The only thing I would crit is (this is so pretentious) there are some slight distortions in the faces of your characters that seem to be the result of: you simply didn't spend enough time in the drafting portion (perhaps looking at your raw linework through a mirror to see it "fresh")
please understand that the only reason I mention this, is because, your work is so close to ideal (my opinion) that it only needs this one thing to REALLY take off. Normally I wouldn't even mention this, but like I said, there is only one thing keeping your stuff from being everything that it can be.
That said, I love your work, keep it up. I look forward to seeing more of it.

I really like the girls clothing.
04-11-2003, 06:42 PM
great neo-urban setting
the pics in your gallerie are a finished comicbook or what?
love the softness of your colloring
You said all digital. So the whole background was done all in PS? No pen/pencil work was used (even as a template)?
Must have used a wacom... i love the coutour of the lines.

I really like the European designs going on with the background. There's a loose quality to the underlying drawing that is really nice. The figures are nicely rendered as well though I'm not a huge fan of the anime look, but in this case it works out well.

well, gezfry, I've to say that your colours are definitely beautifully arranged :), and yes, as gKay said in some way, I suppose that you have very diverse and rich visual and cultural influences.... and that's good. Ah, I liked your website: cool! :)

Totally great work man. I love your colour tones and the futuristic urban landscape backdrops.

I absolutely love your color pallete and line work! It's such a beautiful piece, so much so it reminds me of my favorite style of art, Magna-Carta ;) and that's a huge compliment I'd think heh.
Love your website also  all round knock-out job

Yorgo12345 - thanks for the crit. I think you're right about some of the faces. I keep an eye on that usually, but I found that now I've switched to digital pencilling, it's easy to flip the image horizontally to get a fresh eye on the pic. Hopefully it shows in this new one.
mimo8 - the gallery pics are portfolio pieces, some sequential, some paintings.
Neil - yep I used a tablet for the linework. I was apprehensive about switching away from paper (which I still like working on too), but I found that it's a lot of fun doing linework digitally. Contrary to my expectations it actually allowed me to be looser with my drawing.
lildragon - thanks a lot man - and you're right that's a huge compliment, I love Hyung Tae-Kim's work :buttrock: (by the way if you like his stuff look for a Japanese artist called Yoshio, he's really good). Glad you liked the site too. It was designed by me and my mate Nick at www.declension.net (sorry for this blatant advertising :p )
& thanks for the award too!!
Kirt - cool, an eatpooer :)
Everyone else, cheers!

I've been observing how u've been conquerin' each and everysingle one of the art forums - and I salute you, for magnificent deeds shouldn't go unheralded. Wise is the warrior who appreciates his opponents, Alas, I'm a fool!
04-12-2003, 08:26 AM
Reminds me of Naruto.
04-12-2003, 08:20 PM
ansonkit - I think you misunderstood. I didn't say I wanted to do a Japanese drawing, just put more Japanese influence in my normal style, which is a bit more western looking.
robin - cheers!
shambler - thanks for the nice words here and at gfxartist :)
yowchuan - thanks man. Who's Naruto - do you have a link? I'd be interested in seeing some of his stuff.
