in zbrush 3 , i heard there is a tool to control keeping some edges harden when doing sub-dividing. for example if i wanna make 8 side pipe shape model from maya and import in to zbrush 3 to make it more round on the side but not the 2 end how to i control it?

To keep hard edges when sub-dividing you have to hide the parts you don't want to have hard edges for then go to geometry in the tools window and hit crease

hope this helps

You can use creasing: http://www.zbrush.info/zbrush2_wiki/index.php/Tutorial:_Creating_a_Polymesh_Z

It makes the edges very sharp so you may want to crease, subdivide, clear the creases and then subdivide again to make it a bit more smooth.
