Maya Ayanami 04-10-2003, 07:22 PM Hey all of you Maya for Mac users. I was just wondering how in the world do you use maya with only 1 mouse button or are there special mouses that you can get for your mac that has 3 or more buttons. or does the Maya for Mac version have different hotkeys and such then windows.

I use a 3 button because I believe you have to have one in Maya. I'm sure you can find a cheap one at ebay for like $20, or less if you don't use one already.
I bought Maya visual Quickstart guide for Maya 4 (windows), and Maya 3.5 (macintosh) when I first started playing in Maya, and I don't recall it having any specail hot key's for a Mac spacific one button mouse. As a matter of fact I think it say's get a 3 button mouse right in the manual.
Here is a quote from the book. "Also, be aware that Maya requires a that you use a three-button mouse;"
I think that about sums it up.
I use a kensington Studio Mouse. It's a three- button with an additional touch pad scroller. It's great for everything IMO. :scream:

Hey, its possible to use a one button mouse with Maya...it took me a while to figure out how though. It has to do with modifying the ,Maya.env' file in your Library. I had a link to a thread where it was explained, but lost it now as I use a 3 button mouse. I did start out using this method with Maya PLE though, and I must say, it was cumbersome. Trying to hold mouse commands down with the other commands you have to use in maya is very confusing. And contrary to popular belief, ANY 3 button mac compatable mouse will work with maya, even ones with just a scroll wheel button. Kensington is a good choice because their driver supports middle click (i think). I personally use the Macally Ice Mouse with the middle click comming from the scroll button. Its not very comfortable to click with, especially when you have to do a lot of mouse movement. Oh, and FYI, check out USB Overdrive on Versiontracker.com...this is the beauty that lets u use just about any mouse with maya. Come to think of it, you could probably use USB Overdrive to assign commands to middle and right click if you wanna try that before getting a mouse. USB Overdrive is a great Utility and doesnt require a Shareware liscense. Now I'm rambling...hope this helps

I use a Logitech MX700 mouse when working in Maya (about 50 million buttons on it...). Makes it easier when switching back and forth between my Mac and my windows box.

well I am a windows user myself I just wanted to know how you MAC ers survive. I have used a mac once or twice for a few things and that 1 giant single mouse button drove me crazy.
while we are on the mouses and maya subject I wanted to ask if anyone can help me with a small little problem.
well my mouse that I have is a four button mouse the 4th is where your thumb is. since the driver software for my mouse doesn't let me use alt for the 4th or even for any of the buttons and maya doesn't let me change from using alt to something like ctrl(something my mouse can do). well I want it so that I can move around my scene without the keyboard and just with my 4 button mouse.
can anyone helpMEwithTHISweirdTHINGplease.:surprised

Maya Ayanami: Check versiontracker.com for a gereric Windows USB mouse driver. Like I pointed out in my post above, USB overdrive lets you map keys to buttons on generic mice...hope this helps
