View Full Version : default stance reverses bones?

Hey there!

I'm new to xsi and i'm working on the digital tutors enveloping tutorial. i made a default stance, but everytime i apply this stance, the knee-bones are reversed like this

why is that and how can i fix this?

your knee joints are too straight. when you have a very narrow preferred rotation they tend to flip. so open up your kinematic joint property and adjust the properties. do this when your character is in it's default pose. if your mesh spins around reset the reference pose

you probably still want to adjust those knee pivots. to have a better bend in them you will avoid this issue more often when you do this...

i tend to send the mesh back to modeling if the legs dont meet a certain criteria. here are 'some' criteria pretaining to your issue...

-ankles placed under the hips, not behind the hips ( leaning forward ) or too far in front ( leaning backward )
-pre-bent knees
-knee cap is inline with toe direction ( or vice versa )

this just makes our job easier
