A combination of 3D elements and a lot of 2D work to produce this image. Even if the initial concept was to make a comet, sometimes looking at it now, I see an exploding sphere.
What do you think?

Thanks guys!

The comet is made of 3 3D elements. There is a sphere for the core, these sharp transparent pieces and the dark shards. The last element was a combination of modeling and using dynamic soft bodies.
