I could not think of a concept I liked so I chose one of the supplied concepts. I will add some additional features/changes to the concept that I'm thinking about as time goes on. Here is hoping I finish!

Hello everyone,

Woke up not long ago and started nailing some of the basic proportions I want using zspheres. Not much right now but you get the general idea. I don't think I'm going to have as much cloth on him but we will see. Might have him wrapped up in areas in addition to the cloth. If I have time (which I'm sure I won't) I think it would be cool to have snakes and stuff hanging out from inside of his body.

Talk to you all later!

Hello everyone,

Did a little work on this guy today. Could not work as much as I wanted because of some things that came up in real life but I will make up for it tonight (going to stay up late).

I plan on making him pretty skinny and defined in areas. I'm still planning on where exactly I want him to be wrapped up. I have decided that the main body will be in three layers. First is the organic part which will have tendons, muscles, bones, etc. The second layer is any cloth that is still wrapped around parts of his body. The last layer will be more like a broken cloak. Obviously it is pretty rough and his feet and hands are slightly off but it will be fixed. I think I like the idea of him being pretty thin but still having some muscle tone. Will make the areas where he is wrapped in cloth pop out I think. I also created the base gemoetry using the zspheres I setup for reference. Anyway, I think that is about it. As always, any comments are welcome.

oh cool stuff. Nice updates going on. Why did you incline his body to the front btw?

Keep it going mate!

samarcbz: Yea, using zspheres for fingers is a pain. I am not a huge fan of using them for fingers either but they are ok I guess.

DDS: I have the upper part of his body bent over mainly because I can imagine him standing kind of hunched over most of the time and it helps me capture the mood and spirit of the character. It is just enough to where it shouldn't cause any problems when/if I rig him. If it begins to cause a problem having him stand straight up shouldn't be that hard to do

I'm started to add a lot more definition to some of the forms and mass. I'm tired though so I won't have a picture until sometime later today. As I said before I'm also going to experiment with how I want the cloth to wrap around his body before I try and add crazy details because I need to see how everything sits together.

Sorry for the small delay in posting but I was spending most of my time solving some technical problems with the model in zbrush as I'm still learning the software. Anyway, here we go. I did some VERY fast sketches (less than a minute each) of some of the cloth that will be on the mummy (this will be under parts of the torn cloak). I am posting the sketch that I liked the best and I then started building fast cloth to cover his body. All of this is still wip obviously. Now that I solved some of the problems with the model I can now focus all of my time with the art. :)

I am posting a full screenshot of the body. I have not worked as much on the feet and legs yet but you get the idea. Still need to add more cloth pieces but I wanted to see how it looked before I got too carried away. Time to start adding tons of detail to this sucker! I want to have tendons and stressed muscles. Next, I plan on adjusting some areas of teh head to match the concept more, however I like more of a skull look with parts of skin hanging on. Plan on making his hands pretty boney as well so you can see the tendons move down from the forearm into the hand, etc. I'm thinking about having a evil looking snake coming out of his mouth which will subsitute his tongue. :P

Coming along very nicely!

I'd straigten out his body even further. Hunched over he looks more like a clumsy zombie, rather than the mummified version of a once proud desert warrior, as he looks in the concept!

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments guys. Yea, I will end up making him stand straight soon. I decided to rough out his broken cloak a little. I am going to move on and work on the head now and then everything will get another detail pass. Later on I plan on breaking his cloak up even more. Here are the latest pictures. Ignore the clipping. ;)

hey man it's looking cool, very promising mummy stealth detective. Btw I think u can accentuate his face features a bit more, its hard to tell what's going on his face from these shots!

DDS: Yea, I plan on startng work on his head soon. As mentioned before I have not really worked a lot on his head and that comes next most likely. Lol, mummy detective. I'm going to have his cloak beat up a little more and to get rid of the side straps so it loses the detective look, lol.

Hello everyone,

Have not been working on this as much due to a recent tragedy in my family but here is the latest update. Some items in the screenshot are older versions. I plan on trying to have most of the modeling complete by the end of the weekend. Still have a bit of work to do.

Found a little more time to work on this. Spent some time working on the torn edges of the cloak. Does anyone know if we are supposed to texture our characters in this HMC?

Thanks for the replies guys!

I'm really tired and need to go to bed. When I wake up I need to make my rounds as there are a lot of cool models being done for this challenge that I want to respond to. Here is a render of the cloth that will be wrapped around him. It still needs some work. Also ignore the ugly shader on the flesh as that is just temporary. I still need to do a bit of sculpting on the body of the mummy in zbrush. Right now I'm finishing all of his gadgests and things he is wearing. See you all around!

wow, this is going to be too close.. Anyway here are some screenshots. The cloth sections are more or less textured. I might end up not texturing him because I'm so short of time. I had some ram die on me over the weekend so I lost a lot of time. It looks like texturing is optional so I might just skip that step to save some time. Here are three screenshots. One is a older render of part of the arm cloth (it looks slightly different now but I don't have the time to render). The main goal right now is to pose him and add some more details here and there (I mainly want to spend some time on the cloth covering his head and his gums. Going to be so close...

Hello everyone. Here is a screenshot of the pose. I just added the dirt really fast so I will fix that when I wake up. I have not tweaked ANY of the cloth yet so if parts looks odd, you now know why. ;) Messing with that won't take long. Have messed quite a bit with the lighting, although the lighting in the viewport is pretty simple. Anyway, just start to wrap this thing up. Just need to do some slight texturing, a tad bit more modeling and lighting and it will be finished. I can begin to make out the finish line in the distance! :)
