View Full Version : T. rex texturing help!

ok, then, just the other day I finished doing the uv mapping on my t. rex in Maya and I decided to start on the bump map, but now that I'm at this point, I really don't know what to do. I've tried working with it in the Deep Paint 3d demo, but with no good results. Does anybody know a good way to do a realistic bump map?
here's a picture of my untextured rex http://pilotltkettch.20megsfree.com/images/rexnotex.jpg
and here's a shot of what I'd like it to look like when I'm done http://pilotltkettch.20megsfree.com/images/pdvd_113.jpg
any help would be greatly appreciated

Painting pure and simple.
Trex in the photo was sculpted by hand, every bump and crease. Same with good bump maps... painted by hand.
Could use Cellular or some other fractal, then massage that. But would be too uniform or have other issues.
Here's some reference from 3ds max, might help.

Coming along well.
I would add bumpiness to it for the little scaly/pimply bits. But the creases are looking good.

It's getting there :)
1, I think maybe the eye could be a bit bigger and the lower eyelid edge could be less rounded (last is caused by the Sub-D)
2-3, i think also that the mouth corner could "melt" more together with the head, also that the back of the jaw can melt together more with the neck.
Wains are coming along good, maybe they are a bit straight but then again that's an easy fix.
I think the overall model has good proportions from what I can see, so I think you got a good starting point.
Check out this link,
(yeah, it's Lightwave, but it's good I think)
Good luck ;)
