AEAF MELBOURNE TICKET SALES EXCEED EXPECTATIONS
Due to ticket sales that have exceeded expectations, we have had to upgrade to a larger cinema at ACMI. This is good news of course, as we can now release more seats to cope with demand.
With just over a week to go before AEAF Melbourne, it's important to purchase tickets soon, as we cannot upgrade a second time!

Hmmm. Apparently there is going to be a preview screening of the Matrix too on Monday Night at ACMI !!!
I am mad jealous. I should have waited until now and not come down over Easter. Oh well I couldn't find anyone to pay the entry for me this year ... Have to wait until the next DMW in Sydney....

/me bitchslaps boss for not getting back to me about sending me until thismorning, and then the answer was sorry but no :shame:
but, there's meant to be a meetup at barcode at crown on tuesday night. quote from kit devine, from DLF:
"There will be a Melbourne DLF meeting after the AEAF on tuesday 13th
May. It will be held at barcode. Which is a videogame arcade/bar in the
crown casino complex. They also have pool tables. It's about a 10 minute
walk down the river from the ACMI where AEAF is being held. Nearly
anyone will be able to point you in the direction of the casino. It's
the big BIC lighter shaped building. Barcode is right near the cinema
part of the complex. AEAF is scheduled to finish about 5:30 so people
should be able to make it down by 6:30ish. There should be a great
turnout 'cause a lot of people are coming from interstate for AEAF.
If anyone is having trouble finding the place, my mobile is 0413 724
703. And anyone who arrives there and doesn't know anyone, I'll be
the guy wearing the galaga top."

Well, the first day was amazing. The stuff they let us see from the matrix blew me away. You will not be dissappointed, at least from a visual point of view. I was surprised what was actually cg and what was not!!
I managed to catch up with a few old aquaintances while I was there, as well as my old university course administrator (Hi Pete). Seeing the Cathedral again in full dolby surround was brilliant. I'll never get sick of that movie!
If anyone wants more info let me know, and hopefully I can fill you in.
But now, I've got to get ready for day 2. First up: Bay Raitt. Got ta get my question cap on!:D
Have fun everyone.
   Yea! Get loads of happy snaps if ya can!

Yeah a few pics would be cool.
The marix reloaded was'nt the whole movie by the sound of it.
I wonder how many things in the movie are cg that we have'nt been told about just to see if people will pick up on it.

Unfortunately, cameras were not allowed (boooh!).
All I can say is WOW. Bay Raitt's stuff was brilliant. I'll elaborate a bit later, but I did ask him a few questions, and two things I can tell you is:
A) There'll be a few more timelapse modelling movies from Bay coming out. He's even thinking on writing a book.
B) Mirai will be available for demo download in a few months. Keep an eye on www.izware.com .
Of course this was all answered from the top of his head, so remember this isn't solid press statment stuff. Don't get too excited (although I know I am!).
Um... yeah. I'll have a look over my notes.:D

Hi erilaz,
Id love to get a review of aeaf melbo's :D
If you could do one, could i post it on my site (VFXTalk.com ) ??
Cheers mate

Well we saw some pretty amazing stuff from Matrix Reloaded. Huge amount of digital doubles used and completely CG shots. Some things you would never imagine being digital like that shot in the trailer where Trinity jumps out the window backwards shooting at agent Smith was completely digital including the actors. You won't be dissapointed by the FX. ESC also created some improvements in Mental Ray working in conjunction with Mental Images so future releases should include these improvements.
The Bay Raitt presentation was very inspirational. The facial rig for Gollum was incredible. He gave us a great insight into modeling. I really hope he releases a book.
I probably saw you there erillaz but I don't know what you look like :)

alias: Sure, I'll see what I can do. I'm a little pressed for time at the moment, but I might be able to squeeze it in tonight.
tomb: Agreed. I don't want to put less of an emphasis on the other speakers, but ESC and Bay Raitt really stood out in my mind. Oh, and tomb, I was the guy asking Bay about mirai and his timelapse movies.
No one knows what I look like, I'm like some big mysterious... thing.:hmm: Or maybe i'm just shy. Who knows.:D

Shame bout the pics
Looking foward to some more timelapses from Bay, given what he's been doing lately.
Mirai apparently was used alot and was'nt really given a significant mention in some press. And there has been talk of it dissappearing......so its good to hear you say that its going to Demo............ it survives and people will get to do stuff with the prog that Bay used alot in the movie.
I saw the GDC presentation of gollums creation animation and facial rig and it was sweeet.
You probably already know that Bay has a forum. but if you dont here's the link
Spiraloid.com (http://cube.phlatt.net/forums/spiraloid//index.php)

Hey guys,
Thanks go out to the organisers - it was a great event and the wow factor was huge.
Hopefully we can get more of these things happening down here more often.
Highlight for me was Bay Raitt's facial control system - it's huge and all made of MEL scripts (no plugins). Even has control for pupil diliation etc etc.
And the efx in Matrix Reloaded are simply UNFKNBLVBL.
