View Full Version : selection sets
Blueman 04-10-2003, 01:31 AM Just wondering if anyone knows of a way of copying selection sets in Max. For example if I have model a and model b. If model b is an exact copy of model a, is there anyway of copying the selection sets you've created on model a to use with model b? This would be very helpful when creating several morph targets. Any help?

Simple experiment:
1. Create a Teapot
2. Create a second one
3. Collapse to EMesh (for example)
4. Go to SubObject vertex level in Teapot01
5. Select some vertices
6. Type in a name like "Test" for the selection set in the Named Selection Set field in the Main Toolbar
7. Press the Copy button in the EMesh >Selection rollout
8. Go out of SO level
9. Select Teapot02
10. Go to SO Vertex level
11. Press the Paste button in the Selection rollout
Result: The same vertices should be selected!
You will find a named selection set with the same name in the NSS drop-down list in the Main Toolbar...
Hope this helps...

Hi Bobo,
The best in this method, is that if the second object is not a teapot but a sphere or something else, you can paste the ‘test’ selection set over there too!

Privet, Ivane,
Yes, selection sets do not know about topology, they only store the indices of selected sub-objects. It is another story whether it makes sense to copy between such dissimilar objects, but it is good that it works...

Bobo,(Znaesh zashto bulgarskiat element e ocelial nali?)
I just want to remind that in the complicated topology of this business the sense of humour sometime is an important navigation tool and in some situations the only thing that make sense!?
P.S.Folks, by copy and then paste everyone must be vigilant. Sometimes there are dissimilar objects, that are looking very similar!!
