View Full Version : Commercial in 16:9 PAL, compositing with fields?

Hi!

I'm currently working on a 20sek 3d-animated commercial spot going to be aired in Sweden.
Right now I'm in the post production phase and have a couple of questions. First, some background:

The 3D-material's rendered out in multiple layers which are going to be composited with a lot of effects and animation to each layer. The sequences are rendered out in 1024x576 with 50FPS and pixel aspect 1.0. without field render (the fields would probably ruin the compositing phase for me, that's why I rendered in 50FPS instead of fields).

Now to my actual question. When I take the whole thing into compositing, how do I work best with the 50FPS sequence, taking it into compositing, adding all effects and comp.work I need and then finally rendering a 25FPS field rendered PAL ready-to-broadcast sequence?

What's the most common workflow for working with 50FPS non field rendered 3d to 25FPS compositing with fields?

So basically, you're going for 50 frames per second, to 50 fields per second @ 25 frames per second. So each frame in your new sequence would contain two fields of the 50 frames per second clip.

I'm not sure of your compositing package, but you should just be able to interlace the final result, which should give you 25 frames per second with those 50 frames used correctly.

Thanks Aruna! I just made a small test sequence using combustion and it seemed to have used the 50FPS sequence for the field generation in the right way!

Is this the common workflow? Going for 50fps (or 59,94 in NTSC) in the 3d-package and then generating the 25fps field rendered sequence last in the comp.app. A lot of people i spoke to said that I shouldn't worry and just run for 25fps from the 3d-app and skip the fields.
To get that to work ok you probably would need a lot of motion blur applied to it, right?
Some people even said that I should go for the field rendering right from the start in the 3d-app - this however I know you shouldn't do.
