I was wandering if anyone knows how to turn off mutiple instances of the max program?
Every time i double click on max files it opens another instance of max instead of opening it in the one i have open presently.......
Can i make it work the way i wish......open in the current instance of max, instead of loading up another one?
using max 5.
thanks.
:rolleyes:

Try dragging a .max file into an open MAX viewport. It'll give you the option of Opening, Merging or XRefing the file.

Yeah, and if you use this method you'll want to clean out the \3dsmax\downloads\ folder periodically. Every drag-n-drop .max file gets copied there, then loaded.

I already knew that.......but thanks anyway.
What i want to know is if there is an option anywhere that i can turn off the multi instances of max so it doesnt open by accident.(I have a bad habit of double clicking stuff)

Sorry. Maybe change mouse prefs in Windows so the double-click speed is slower?

You're not running MAX on a Mac, we have the ability to launch several instances of our programs :)
Ack lemme stress I'm only joking with that.

In all seriousness I think you should stop doubleclicking things. I can't imagine that's a habbit that'll be too hard to kill if you apply a bit of effort. From time to time I find it quite nice that MAX can be launched in several instances..

All said and done, sure, I wouldn't mind a setting somewhere that could toggle the behaviour for those that wants that.. as far as I know it's not in there though, and it's likely going to be a lot easier just changing your strange behaviour :)

the copies from in the downloads only appear if you drag from another drive or network server
