Hey Guys, been looking at this for about a week now and I wanted to make sure that I'd have time to finish this before I started a thread. And guess what it looks like I have time.

Me and my friend Tony will be working on this one as a team. We're planning on doing the Forensic version, I'll mostly be taking care of the animation/simulation and he'll be doing models/materials/compositing.

Here's Balloon Test 01 (http://www.wolfwere.com/cgtalk/fxwarballoon/BalloonPop01.mov) I did this test a little earlier today using Maya nCloth to pop a balloon, I'll be working on getting this over to realFlow to start doing some more tests. C&C welcome :)

Hello,

I spent about an hour and a 1/2 on building out the balloon and working with the textures/lights. I think it needs to have a little bit more of a matte material and some detail, but its a start. Comments welcome.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to export a mesh from Maya 8.5 to realFlow using the .sd exporter. I'm currently getting an error in the middle of my export that says "To export a object with vertices deformation, the number of vertices has to be the same fro the whole animation. Could not save file" Does anyone know of a good way around this. I've got a couple of ideas but off the top of my head the only thing I can think of doing is exporting the first half before it breaks, then exporting the bits as it tears apart, and then exporting the third section after it's completely broken.

So if you have any ideas on this I'd love to hear them.

Side Note: realFlow doesn't suppoert Maya 2008 yet, so before you get to busy in the lastest version you should jump back to 8.5 for your sims.

I did a quick render of a spray test, this will be one of many layers used over the sim done in Real Flow. I used 3dsmax Particle flow

Dang... Looks good, as does your render of the balloon material. I can only hope for my sake that it doesn't look as good in motion!:D I'm still wondering how I'm going to do that spray and the actual balloon popping part in Blender. Good luck!

Thanks Cap, we've been working kinda hard on it, not as much as I would like but work does get in the way every once in a while :P

So Tony worked on doing some more spray tests in PFlow, and I just got done working out how to get my mesh for realFlow into Max, so here's two quick tests from each of those.

Splash Test (http://www.wolfwere.com/cgtalk/fxwarballoon/splash_test_01.mov) from realFlow

Spray Test (http://www.wolfwere.com/cgtalk/fxwarballoon/Spray_test_01.mov) from PFlow in Max

Here's a new test for the realFlow water, I added a noise modifier to get a little bit of a ripple effect to it. I've also cut back on the mesh resolution and I'm hoping that we can do some texture work to get it to look better let me know what yall think

It looks good, but I think it looks a bit unrealistically solid when it is in the air. Almost more like a lump of clay instead of water until it hits the ground.

Michael, you should try putting some friction on the plane the fluid is hitting and see if you like the result.

I'm not sure what you are going for with your sim, but some friction and some randomness on the surface a fluid collides with seems to really help sell a realistic simulation.

Hey Cap, I know what you're saying about the clay look, I think the problem with that is that I'm giving it less then a second to actually fall so it's not having any time to dispurse, so if I let it fall for a couple more seconds we should be able to get more fluid particles to leave the main body of water.

Floyd, I'll give that a try, but I think we'll probably concentrate on the falling of the water more then the splash, but we're still working out all the details :)

I think your whole attempt is coming out quite well - nice to see the mixture of packages.
