UberModeler 04-09-2003, 07:45 PM i instanced my object and finished it. now i want to combine the 2 sides of my object so its now one instead of the instanced. i tried welding the verts together but since its instanced it cant weld to itself. so just wondering how you make it one object. i've messed with it a bit and i cant figure it out. thanks

Funny thing, help files...:airguitar
Click help
Click the search tab.
type "instance"
Then click on the "Make Unique" item.
Read.
Sorry about that, you had it coming though.
Basicaly you make the instance unique, then you can weld it.

To the right of the "Show end result" on/off toggle, you will see a button with 2 arrows pointing at a circle. Click it. It's called "Make unique".
That will get rid of the instance.

is your F1 key somehow mapped to "Post new thread" at cgtalk?

Signal to Noise-sorry you have a holier then thou image of yourself. some people need help and arnt perfect like you.
i call myself UBERMODELER because one day i hope to be.
you make it seem like noobs arnt worthy of asking questions. im not sure if thats what you want to come off as but it seems like that. ive been around here a while but if i was new and you responed to me like that i dont think i would want to come back.
also i wouldnt have asked if i didnt look at the help. i didnt seem to find anything. and all it took was a simple explanation by 3dzealot and there you go im happy.
im not trying to be an ass. you just made me feel stupid and i dont think thats what you want.

No that's not what I wanted but you have to admit your post is pretty damn vague! I thought I was being reasonably polite as well.
After 40 or so posts you'd think you'd have the CgT policy down pat: No Vague Posts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or is that too vague for you?
I have to admit, now that you mention it, I am feeling pretty holy these days. Care to kiss my feet?

well 3dzealot helped me-let me think hes the moderator so i guess its all good. if it bugs you that bad....DONT READ THE "vauge" posts.
something that is vauge to you maybe a legit problem to someoen else.

i think Signal to Noise meant to say no vague "subject".
make your subject more clear, such as "instancing question" rather than "easy question".

Hey, guys, everyone relax...heck, have a beer!
And Signal to Noise, you be nice...I don't want to have to send you back to your cage...you just got out.... ;)
No need to make the forum all hostile and rude, guys. Let's just all try to our keep our thread titles discriptive and meaningfull.
I've always said this was the friendliest Max forum on the net...let's keep it that way, please!

Okay. Two beers and a tequila chaser down now. I'm all relaxed again.
Friends?

A drunken update: After the buzz set in I have to admit maybe I, yes "I", was a bit too vague in my responses. I was referring to the vagueness of the subject line of the initial thread "easy question". That's vague. Yes, I still clicked on the vague link to have a read and your query made sense albeit missing some detailed info. Usually I do leave the vague posts alone (i.e. not clicking on them in the first place) but I can't help myself. I'm like a shark, trapped in a human's body, swimming in a goldfish pond. I know. I have issues.
Still friends? (This is not drool. It's me throwing up tequila in about two hours...)

sorry for the rudeness. we were all newies at one point, but most of us did not hav cgtalk to turn to at every turn, we had to, dare i say, figure it out ourselves. it seems that newbs take this kind of board for granted.
u learn by doing, not by havin someone hold ur hand. thats my point.
