View Full Version : Animating Link Constraints?

Hi All

I have a character carrying a fishbowl and placing it on a table and then bending down to look through the fishbowl. My problem is when she releases the fishbowl and drops her hands, the fishbowl moves with her hands.

Now I have the fishbowl link constrained to a point helper at frame 0, the fishbowl point helper is link constrained to a point helper linked to the hand control spline. At frame 60 she sets the bowl on the table and at that point I have tried to both link the fishbowl and fishbowl point helper to the world but the fishbowl still moves when she drops her hands. I even tried link constraining them to the table top. Nothing works. I know it should and I have done tests in a new file so I believe I know the drill.

Can anyone help me on this. Thanks

*easy solution* i'll let someone else explain constraints:D

she lets it go at frame 60? just split your animation into 2 max files animate it all the way through, frames 0-60 file, and a 61-xx file, on the 61-xx file, just break the link on the bowl

Thanks edaddy

That was my next course of action although I prefer to keep the sequence in one max file. It erks me I can't get this to work in a single file. Deadlines and all I will take your advise and seperate the file. Thanks again.

hehe ...it s me again ........what abot using a position constraint on your fishbowl instead of a link constraint............then use the hands and table as targets(or better still use a point linked to your hand and a point linked to your table....then you can move your points to get the exact position of your fish bowl when constrained)......then change the weight between table point and hand point targets as neccessary....constraints are great ....i hope this makes sense ......it does to me:D

cheers

Thanks Craig!

I'll try that. When I get into animation. Just doing layouts right now and have to present to client this afternoon. Doh! I'll let you know if it works but won't get to it until tomorrow now. Cheers mate!
