CGTalk - Can't Apply Gravity

I'm working in Maya 8.5.
I've created a particle emitter. Selecting
particleShape1 in the attribute editor
whenever I try to apply a gravity field
I get an error message: " No object matches name".

?????

Try creating a gravity field and then go into Window>Relationship Editors>Dynamic Relationship

Here you can select your particles and link them to the gravity.
