View Full Version : How to auto-locate bottom of primitive object?

Is it possible to have C4D locate primitive objects with their bottoms on the xz plane when selected from the menu without having to set Coord. y=ht/2 or drag and align manually? I build up and down from y=0.

Leg work: I checked the Preferences, tried the Help system and searched this thread (requires too much time to go through each post).

Try Kuroyume's (http://www.kuroyumes-developmentzone.com/products_cinema_4d.html) Drop to Floor & Drop It plug-ins.

Simple but effective one click tools.

That works and DropToFloor is now a front line tool. Thanks Alan for the plug and quick response.

(Was wondering if/hoping that 10 had this built in as a preference.)

I really wish we had primitives with positionable centres.

Like the OP I want to build from the floor up. Eg; create a cyclinder based in the floor, and increase the height - upwards, ie from a base axis - not upwards and downwards, ie from a central axis.

Mike A.

PS: an option to draw primitives in situ, rather than drop them into scene would be even better...

You'll find roll-it (http://www.eggtion.net/index.php?do=news) to help you out as well. Sort of a "Live DropIt".

A very simple Xpression tag will do the trick nicely.
In attached file, just pull on the height or radius handles in the editor view.

Another to check out is the A-Primitives (http://www.3dsoftware.cz/download/DownSearch.aspx?Typ=4) by Pavel Zoch. These give you a 0,0,0 corner origin.

Do a CGTalk search under pzdm and check out some of his other posts:

MoxPig, A_Nurbs, MG Skylight.

Cheers, Alan.

Jeremy W: Brilliant !

But that's how they should always have been !

Makes you wonder why on earth not?

Could this become a preference?

Also, OT, why does the Cylinder in C4D have a default of 8(!)vertical segments, and 3 cap segments? I'm always reducing them to 1.

Thanks Jeremy - BTW what's the best/simplest way to make yours the default primitives?

Cheers,

D.

Make your primitive as you want it to appear. Then in the AM select Edit->"Set As Default"
If you also want to include the objects Tags, in OM select File -> Save Object Preset.
Load the preset from the ContentBrowser.

Jeremy, Alan,
Thanks for your helpful response - both good options in the current state of play - but this really ought to be a built in option - there are issues / frustrations with any workaround solution to an issue like this.

Mike
