Maybe this is a longstretch... but is it possible to convert MIDI data to maya as timing info for keyframes? It seems possible and would save alot of time for people with quick hands on a synthesizer or whatnot.

there even is an external tool called faceworks, that uses a more or less standard midi mixer to control blendshapes in maya.. so..: yes. it should work i would say

Faceworks ? Do you know who makes it or where I could obtain a copy? Sounds like just what I am looking for.

but that is a complete set of plugin and hardware (the midi mixer) i think..

Goto highend and search the mel scripts for midi. There are 2-3 different ones that will read in midi data for animation.
