View Full Version : Attaching an object to a vertex

Hi,

perhaps what I'm asking here is considered common knowledge, or perhaps it's just impossible - anyway, I can't figure out how to do it. I've checked the docs to no avail.

Here I have a large poly-object which is being heavily deformed during animation. Now I'd like to connect some smaller objects to certain vertices on the poly, so that their position adjusts accordingly. What I seek is a function like "parent", yet it should parent to a specific vertex and not the whole object!

Anyone have an idea what I'm talking about?

Help is appreciated!

Stefan

I think that the quickest way is to use Snap Together Tool.

You can place an arrow on vertex you want or use Snap to Poly Face option of this tool.

You can than group / combine your poly objects.

You can also use snap point to point but Snap Together Tool moves and also rotates.

There's a nifty little tool called "rivet.mel" over at Highend3d that is really easy to use.

Pick two vertices or edges and run the script. A locator is created between the points and it sticks there no matter what. Then just either parent or constrain your geo to it.

Edit: works for NURBS too

Thank you Graf Orlok, that was exactly what I was looking for!
