View Full Version : frustrating crashes when exiting render

Hi all,

I have a still image scene that isn't all that taxing (I think anyway), but it's still crashing. C4D10 crashes just as the illustration finishes it's last line. I can see the finished illustration, except for the part that's covered with the crash message :-(. I am using the automatic crash report transmit thing to send to Maxon, but I thought I'd ask here too.

The file is using less than 1/2 of my ram and renders quickly. It'll crash whether I instruct C4d to save as a multi-layer PSD file or if I don't instruct it to save at all. I know this isn't much to go on, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Impossible to guess what it could be without the file.

Are you using any plugins? (That includes external render engines such as VRay or M~R). If so you should try removing them before rendering and seeing if that helps.

No plug-ins, but I did just hear back from Maxon. By the way, I supplied the crash report to them and heard back via e-mail within two hours, which I think is great.

Seems I have an old version of R10 on my machine, so I'm updating to V10.111 as we speak and hopefully that will take care of it.

that or some post process is taking up the rest of the ram and causing an out of memory error (and crash)

Nah. R10.0 is notoriously unstable (surprising for Maxon, but they do acknowledge it - thus R10.102 and R10.111). My plugin has been blamed for so many crashes with that version that there is now a note on my website that insists that users update to R10.1xx (where none of those crashes occur!)

Materials were noticeably unstable.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but updating the software fixed it. Happy! Here's the render it was crashing on. I'm not done with construction yet but at least it's nice to see a test image. :-) I was using less than 1/2 my ram with no plug-ins or post processing.http://homepage.mac.com/jawarden/.Pictures/watches/Hamilton/2007_1011k0044B.jpg
