CGTalk - Made in a previous version?

I have no experience in XSI, but a friend said they were having a problem when trying to open a file saying "this file as made in a previos release of XSI" or something to that effect, and wouldn't let them open it, however, they have not changed XSI at all.

Any ideas to get around this?

save the file as dotxsi...

Cheers, but now they can't open the file to resave it as .xsi.
