Yes you can do only the head, but the topology for it has to be animation friendly.
Good luck!

greetings... nice zbrush work you have there... I like your concept too... anyway I know that if you just re import the mesh (as long as you haven't changed the amount of polys on it and just unwrapped it) you can import it into the base mesh again and it will then have all the uvs that you gave it....
I'm not sure exactly how (I did it once but that was a while ago that's why I know about it) as I'm am still amateurish at zbrush...
keep it up, I'm interested how the final look is going to be...

Indeed, morphius is correct. That's the right way of doing it. Export Sub.1 from Zbrush, import in 3D program. Do the UVs. (if it's max, convert to editable poly too). Export from 3D program. Reimport in zbrush, with your tool selected, and sub.1 being the current one.
Also, don't use cloth FX to dress your guy. Model the geometry around it, model the wrinkles manually. I think it will give you better results for this challenge, if you don't have much experience with clothing.
Best of luck!!
Albert Feliu.

That sculpt is coming along well. The wartiness and pulled features are looking great.
His left ear (the one that sticks out more) looks a little off, though. It doesn't look fleshy enough. It seems as though the inside should have more depth to it. Just me, personally, though.
Can't wait to see more, and I hope you figure out the cloth!
oh man eyes are looking awesome. Keep up the great job :)
my only crit would be it looks like it has no bone mass under the skin. Like a blubby kind of guy, without a hard part holding all the features of his face. I thinksharpening some parts where skin is thin and there is no muscle, like the cheekbone or jaw, would help.
My 2 cents :)

Unfortunately, I don't know much about vray, so I can't help you on that issue. However, I can confess how wonderfully horrible, in great smashing way, your character looks. Your awesome zombie-creation-skills fills my evil soul with envy ;)
Keep up the wicked work.
