How does one go about this?

Do you have to install the epoly update at script spot? I've read about a few people modeling this way and it sounds like a cool workflow but it dosen't seem to work in the default epoly in max.

I've been reluctuant to install this older epoly replacement because I'm not sure if it's an epoly replacement for max or what and I don't want to nuke any of max's default epoly capabilties.

thanks guys

R4.2 or R5?

Shift-drag is only possible in Max5 Editable Poly if I'm correct. Cloning edges like that is possible with the editable mesh object in all versions of Max

But even in ver 5 when I select an edge and go to drag it it just becomes unselected. Is there a particular order that things need to be selected?

I'm not getting the "flow" but I'm very excited about using the technique.

I think I know what your problem is.

You're probably trying to do it on an edge that is on a closed entity. You know, like on a box or a fully welded model.

Try doing it on detached poly, or one on a border. It should work then.

You are correct 3dz, I was trying to do it on a closed object.

I drew a polygon and the shift/drag technique does work on that. This is a very cool modeling technique thanks to you guys for helping me to discover it.
