ah yes... let the noodling begin! so much done, yet still so far to go. i've taken some time to develop more of the background to give more of an establishment (trying to not draw too much attention to it), and i've started rendering the middleground from the left. light the shower with a semi-transluscent curtain = good times. i've also begun refining the sketchy lines (as you can see by the cleaner look of the lft side compared to the rt). plus i'm still planning to go back later to add a wash to cool everything down back there even more...

This is a fun idea. I really like your developmental sketches for this piece. May I suggest that you block in the values throughout the entire piece first, rather than work out the details from left to right? I think that the lighting and values in the rest of the piece, particularly in the characters should be addressed. Good luck. :)

Fun idea! I agree VitruvianMango - you may want to work all of your dark side up with digital water, if you are working in Painter, Good work - keep it up.

here's an update on my piece... not nearly finished, but gives a sense of where i'm headed with the whole thing. VirtuvianMango and SideAche, thanks for the advice. i think i'll try the digital water thing in Painter, since that's what i'm using for this project. i think what i'll do is finish the two fish, the toilet, and human, then go back in with a cool wash with digital water for the shadows and a warm wash for the light sides. to finish that off, i'll go back in a pull out some highlights. that outta make some difference... plus i think i might have to go back in a intensify the values in my shower curtain. in the regular sized piece, you can see it lit much better, but it loses a lot (ie: shadows from within the shower) as i noticed it after posting my piece. boy, so much to do with so little time!

Hey kris. Nice foot and hand. Like that purple bow on the fish, too. When you go back with the wash, make sure to desaturate your background colors...where is your main light coming from?

thanks for the value crits, Ryan. here's another pass at my project. as far as the lighting goes, since the fish are in a glass dome, they'll be lit from all around with the primary lights from the hall, the vanity bulbs around the mirror, and the window just slightly behind them. more to come VERY soon!

here's my latest pass. finshed kid fish, and decided to go gender-neutral for both fish. plus, i wanted to eliminate just a little bit of the cartoony-ness of it by a notch. also worked out more of the background with the mirror/sink area. next pass will include the extreme foreground, where i'll finish up the dude in the tiolet.
Kei-Acedera -- thanks for the compliment! it's awesome to have good feedback from someone with a strong piece as yours. and i'm glad you got the diver towel rack gag.... and to think i almost took it out! :)

It's just another clear-water evening in the Goldfish "dome-icile". As he finished cleaning his room, little Bubbles was about to feed his pet, when upon second glance he realized that it was time for the quarterly Family Pet Funeral. Though he's familiar with the routine, he can't help but feel a little sadness as Fido has been his favorite so far. And, as Mr. Goldfish and little Bubbles gather in the bathroom to say their final good-byes to Fido, they both sigh as they think to themselves, "Not another one..."
