Hey all. I am doing a little R&D right now and I am stuck!

I am trying to find an efficient way to do distributed rendering in maya 8 over a render farm.

I am using the Deadline software on the render farm. I am able to get the farm to split my frame into X number of pieces but I am ending up with that many image files. I would like to find a fast way to crunch the images into one file without using compositing software such as After Effects or Photoshop. Is there a 3rd party tool that can do this? or does anyone know how to do this with deadline software?

thanks

Have you sent this question to the makers of deadline? If it'll slice a single frame up, it seems logical that it would also assemble it afterwards. From the manual it states:

"While Deadline doesn't directly support distributed rendering of a single image, it supports a feature called Tile Rendering, which splits up the image into regions and sends them off to multiple machines. Tile Rendering is only supported by the 3dsmax, Maya, and XSI plugins, and automated image re-assembly is only supported for the exr, bmp, jpg, png, tga, and tif formats. Other formats will have to be re-assembled manually using an application like Photoshop."

It sounds like it does what you want, though I've never used it so I couldn't say what exactly you need to do.

I did read that as well earlier today but for the life of me I cannot figure out where I can tell it I want them recompiled. I have looked through the job submission box, iv checked through the deadline application itself, and I thought I was looking in the right places but I must have passed over it. It didnt help that franticfilms.com seemed to be down for the afternoon either :( but I will try and see if I can find anything else in the manual. all I have found so far is that it is possible, as you quoted, but no instructions on where to do it or how.

thanks for your help though! Ill keep at it.

update:

my version of the deadline render managment software does not support anything but .exr image files. I have Deadline 2.6. Deadline 2.7 supports .tiff .jpg, .rgb and so on :(

I guess I am stuck using photoshop for now.
