View Full Version : Rendering Particles and Objects?

Hey All,

Simple idea.. have a number of falling objects attached to particles that pass in front of the camera. I'm using Messiah Studio Workstation 2.5c.

I've been able to get the objects to fall, however strange 'orange squares' also randomly fall with the objects. Does anyone know what these could be and how I might remove them?

Here are some random frames of the objects (in this case spheres) with the mystery 'squares':

Here is the project file:

Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated, I can't think of anything else to try.

Thanks, Jon

yeah, you need to add the 'particle shader' node 'colour' input to 'ParticleSurface' node 'Radiance'. Also adjust 'particle shader' node to your needs. (I didn't look at your file)

Thanks for the input! I've found a solution.

Just for anyone else, this is what seems to happen. You add a Particles effect (Setup), this then creates a ParticlesSurface (Render/Materials). By default this surface will render the particles, since I don't want to render the particles (I want to render the objects attached to the particles) I've set the Transparency to 1. Now the particles themselves are invisible, but the objects render.

What I have noticed though is that the objects that are used to attach to the particles cannot be hidden. So even before they are emitted they will render. This causes problems if you want the particles to be emitted when the objects are in the camera's view.

Jon,

There is a simpler way if you do not want to render the particles (which I thought you did). just disable the particles shader, press the 'green dot' in the render -> Surface list view. this will stop the particle shader rendering.

I will have a look at your file later.
