Hey, thats awesome. Great job, did you project a photo onto a mesh landscape? I think the shadow underneath the statue near the end could be darker, but I might be wrong. Love the details.

Hmmm, well a couple things that get me with this is that the pulling motion feels way to smooth. Plus if it was rolling across logs it should be rocking a little bit due to the different sizes and thickness of the logs. Plus i dont know if its just me and the lack of sleep but the logs in the middle of where the cross beams meet, they look like they rotate a little.
plus a sound of the logs grinding and ropes being stretched. Looks good though, keep up the work.

That was a long...no that long...discussion in the WIP thread. I totally undertand what you are describing...but I'm going for the Weight Momentum "Theory": The Statue is so heavy that it will keep the "smooth" and constant movement...That's what I think.
Thanks for the C&C.

it looks great, I have to agree that it really needs some sound effects. The statue *might* rool that smoothly but only if it where on a rather smooth ground and grass and dirt dosn't lend itself to beeing smooth.
It works the way it is, I don't really know how you would make a herky jerky roll without that too looking funny.
Maby grab a bunch of twigs, plop a brick on it, and see how it rolls if you drag the brick with a string.

Not to get into a discussion (as you mentioned that there was some), but i agree with LordShaitan. Even if the stone would be unbelievable gigantic, i would expect concussions due to not perfecly round boles.
If you say that itīs even heavier than above mentioned, then i think it should move more slowly. There would be still "concussions", but they wouldnīt be visible any more as the eye might not be able to interpolate them. (what i want to say is:
one would see a concussion only as a non coherently up- and down movement, if the stone is moving slow enough)
Now, it looks like it is moving on rails.
Maybe a very slight camera shake (not sure, may look total silly in this case) while the object is passing by would add to dramatic effect. Think Jurassic Park. And, as Shaitan wrote, sound FX will enhance the scene greatly.
Does this make sense at all? itīs a bit late...
Aside from that, it looks great!!

The sound effects are one the way...some Sound Effects friends will work on them. I have some realy bad ones from the internet for the log and ropes moving, some wind, birds...etc, but they realy sound bad...I think there is one test with Sfx in the WIP Thread
Thanks again!!!

Logs and weight... That was a long...no that long...discussion in the WIP thread.
There is a PBS show where they replicate engineering marvels of the ancient world. One of the shows centered around getting a head on Easter Island to be moved to the sea from the quarry on the hill using technology of that time period. The unfinished carving was moved into place and finished in position according to the scholars. That way they didn't risk breaking a finished statue.
The movement was also not so smooth as you depict it.
Is your statue to scale? There don't seem to be enough people to pull a stone object that large.
The models and surfacing are very cool, though.
I like the chant sound file you found, too.

webfox: Thanks for those words...
Acording you Jo Anne Van Tilburg (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/easter/move/) for a Aprox 22 Tons 28 feet Statue they used between 40 or 50 guys...This Statue represents TE TOKANGA the largest never raised Moai. Is Aprox 58 Feet and 80 Tons...She was part of the team of archaeologist in that PBS doc.
I have in the shot 147 natives pulling. Remember that this is only a theory, and I'm recreating that theory. I tried to used and read as many reference as I could...still working in adding as much "real" details as time allows me to do. Anyway, I always thought in more guys in there...they are in my "details list".
The "smooth" movement...I hate that word. But it was used to describe the pulling. The logs are not only rotating underneath the structure, they are also buried a bit one the grass and ground. Also all the log structure is kind of moving as it was only moored with ropes.
You can realy work for ever in a shot like this but I realy had to move on to the other 2 shots.:buttrock:
Thanks again
