This is the finished model for an object in a project I am working on. It is an ancient evil that never dies, used as a powersource for a machine/computer that is powered by souls. These machines are operated by Technopriests... ambitious scene.

Crits welcome!

it would be much nicer if it was a darker and u could texturize(??) the wires.....it doesn't really look like a finished job but the way it is now is really great!!

hey it looks great, the way it was posted on cgtalk next to the girl with the flowers looked kinda cool, heheheh u dont have to put vegetation into your model but it just looked good to me ;)

really nice modelling, and I like the non-sence of this,
but like the other told before, i would like the wire to be more realistic to make less contrast with the skull.

good job!

I definitely agree about the tubing and wires and stuff-- they need textures or at least some deeper colors. Make the tubes look like they've got gross and diabolical fluuuids in em!!

Good modelling.

But for something thats "ancient", it looks brand new. Add some "age" to your textures

Stillwell

Yes, adding some age.

Like moisture?

Great job!

webfox

That is just great :)

The unsurfaced tubes add a freaky "Seussian" quality to the image. I think that makes it even more disturbing.

heheh...

Thanks for posting.

I like where this is heading, but I would love to see some more moody lighting on it, dont be afraid to make it darker and hint at it with subtle lighting...

ewwwwww...

Great work, everything that needs help has already been mentioned. It's going to be great when it's hooked up to something.

i love the model

But i have to agree with the guys above about the wires and the lighting. i think if the lighting had more of a contrast and wires had more of a texture or detail to it.

it would add to it.

but like i said i love it

keep up the good wk

wow thats one of my favorites that I've seen here.. i agree with some of the previous posts, deeper colors on the wires, or maybe make them look more dirty or used .. same with the metal ring around the top of the head.. other than that its awesome i'm really impressed.

Personally I do not think he should be painted over..

Yea there are things that could be improved...

But he did a real good job and deserves the recognition…for the time and effort you can see that he put into.

thats my opion

Oh WOW! Very awesome!!!:buttrock:

If I may ask what ap was used to model and render that bad boy?

ZeroNeuro

I had a skull that I modelled in Max... but I tossed everything out and started with a poly tool in maya. Then I discovered the joy of Flight. So the rest of the poly modelling was in wings. The wires were simple, just extrudes., hoses were revolves. Textures were by hand and wacom. Scene set up in maya and rendered. tada! The BG is a photo I had lying around since I didn't want a dull solid color Check here in a few minutes (11:50pm est now) for a version rendered in the 'scene' lighting.

Cheers

Cool, but if this is evil, should have some darker and dramatic lightings and shadows.. >) den it'll look scarier... The modelling and texture is nice.. welldone..:scream:

Great model I like it a lot. Concept reminds me of the story behind warhammer 40k.

cool object.

But i didn`t like textures on the wirez that you have now...

Liked them better without it or with some thing like turning the uv on the wire texturez so taht the "streaks" goes around the wire and not along it...if you undestand what i mean..

I know my english is`nt the beast:p ...hehhe...

Keep it up..like it alot

Really nice modeling and image.
I definitely aggree with Spirit, in that you should work with the lighting. Could be much moodier, perhaps with a nice gangrenous green light coming up from below :hmm:

I also agree with Gnarly... fluid and bubbles in the tubes would be awesome.

Good job!

I think it would do well to add detail to the areas around the pieces of metal bolted to the skull, darkening it somewhat, so it lookes more like it's actually touching - nay, imbedded.

Are those phong shaders? It generally looks a bit plastic...

Other than that, lookin great! Keep it up, If you follow everything people have been suggesting so far, it's sure to turn out great!

GrandCherub

nice :)

all i have to add is that the textures looks mirrored, thats because if you looker right over his "nose" you see some of the fractures that go the exact way on both sides of the skull

First off it looks great.

Critique: WAY too clean and bright... get it more dirty, and the wires need alot more work. Try putting some other (not soo shiny) textures on there... they look too clean and easy. Maybe darker (close to black) colors for them.

Also it might get better mood if you dim the light more, and perhaps add a little glow to the eyes.

Great work .. keep up posted ;D

If i had a METAL band i would go for that one on my cover :buttrock:

i agree about the wires that have to be textured.
and also the top of the head parts should look more metallic (some reflections will be doing good over there)

Awesome scene.

Makes me think of the servo skulls from Warhammer 40k that help the Inquisitors. The basic idea in W40k is that there are techno priests who kill heretics and the servo skulls are used to help them with prayers and whatnot.

Yeah well.. ok. Replies ;)

The textures aren't mirrored... but the bumpmap is too fine and the diffusion maps were off a bit so I didn't get that dirty look :(

the wires are textured, but the problem is with the wires themselves... they are nurbs an are wrapped like a cyl. This means I have to do one heck of a tall map to make it fit.

_vine_: I know what you are talking about, but I completely forgot about them when I did this. heheh

Cheers :)
