This is my second time lighting a scene with mental ray GI in Maya. The first time I think was a great success so I tried all the same things I tried previously.

The scene is an office scene with a lot of cubicles.

I have a large area light emitting photons directly above the scene to simulate the directly vertical lighting the lights would give. I've tried cranking up the number and intensity of photons but The photons seem to not be evenly dispersing from the area light. I figured because the area light is as big as the sccene that all photons would emit evenly across the area light but it doesnt appear that way. I've attached the render showing how it only seems to light the center of the image. The map visualizer further proves that all photons are collecting in the center. I've also attached a top view of the scene with the area light and map visualizer. I am willing to listen to any and all solutions because I've reached a high level of stress and desperation.
Thanks to any and all!

I tried making the area light bigger just to see if the photons would spread better but got the exact same result. It appears that the photons are only emitting from the center portion of the area light. Is there a maximum size for area lights to emit photons or is there some feature I'm missing that allows for photons to be evenly emitted across the area light?

Here is a better pic of the location of the photons, even though the area light spans across the entire scene.

it seems like your scene is really large compared to your light... usually area lights emit photons from the center no matter how big they are.... you might want to consider putting more than one area light... well quite a few for your scene... just cut down the number of photons so that all together they add up to the number that you have emmitted now... It will give you a little more control over where they go as well...
