Does anyone know if there is like a standard in videogames for what type of skinning to use? I was playing metroid prime im sure thats Rigid. But just curious also if anyone has any tutorials on skinning that would be rockable.

thanks

Depends on the game engine. You can use rigid (faster) or softskinning. AFIK modern graphicards can handle skinning rather than CPU, when a vtx is only influenced by 2 joints (two bone softskinning). Unfortunately maya doesnt support converting conventionally edited weights to 2 bone skinning, a script can do this.

we are using Renderware 3.5.....

it supports only smooth skinning with a max of 4bones per vertex. Only known limitation is the Ps2 can only have a 64bone heirarchy limit. Dont know about the xbox...
