RobertoOrtiz 10-09-2007, 04:31 PM "Sand"
You have No time Limit for your sketch. IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
NOTE: I am planning to use this art as part of the next Modeling challenge. You may see your concept art as 3d models!
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php/?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them).
Good Luck

Here is my 60 min attempt in Painter. Some great work here from everyone!
Had a LOT of trouble getting the pic big enough to see without being too big to fit in the file size restrictions!
Don't know why I only have a thumbnail! What am I doing wrong???
Tried saving to then uploading from PS but can't get a large image like you guys. Can someone help?
Ok, had some help, lets see if it works! http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/388/sandib2.th.jpg (http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sandib2.jpg)

You have loaded the image up as an attachment to your post. this way you only get a thumbnail to click on. If you want a large image, load your image up to a free imagehost like www.imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us) and use the link of the image to insert an image in your post.

Thanks Simon. It seems strange that I should need an image host when I have never needed one on any other sites to post images as large as 1000 by 1000. I will try though as I have just joined PhotoBucket, (Really slow!) and Imageshack.
Just uploaded from imageshack, but it is not much larger than the thumbnail. I know you can enlarge it by clicking,(like the thumbnail could) but it is not quite right. Any more advice?

Alright, once you have loaded it up to imageshack.us, you see a screen with some links on how to put it in a website, and you see a small thumbnail of the image. If you click on the thumbnail it will show bigger. You can right-click on this larger image, and use the url for the image from there to post as an image here. hope that makes sense!
In this case use this link :

Daw, it looks like you're not the only one thinking about Dune when hearing the word sand :) Although mine is not exactly a quick sketch... it took me about 8 hours. Would have taken about 6 but I re-did some part of it at one point.
Done with Gimp 2.2.14 and a wireless optical mouse.

That's a nice one, the worm is hillarious, he's reeeeally giving it all he's got. Nice work!
MtFR - haha - thats so cool... - with a wireless mouse  respect :buttrock:
Thanks guys. I found it's actually better with a wireless 'cause you don't have to manage the wire all the time. I ain't no Microsoft fanboy but it is a MS mouse and the movement quality is the same as for a MS with wire, which is pretty good. It's still a pain though being a mouse :) How much time would you say I'd slash off if I drew using a tablet instead?
