View Full Version : 4.5 - SubDs stopped responding?

I'm working on a model in Maya 4.5 using SubD's, having converted a polygon model to subD for this purpose. I turned on Polygon Proxy Mode and sent to work and I've been drawing edges on it primarily to add sharper details, and it worked fine for a while, but all of a sudden, no matter what I did to the model, it wouldn't respond. I'd grab huge clumps of vertices and drag them out away from the model that should have deformed it horribly, but the model isn't responding at all. The vertices move and the polygon proxy outline looks sufficiently warped, but the subD model itself remains unchanged.

What's going on here? Did I bork something up?

I checked the attribute editor and made sure that the polygon proxy mesh's max polycount was maxed out at 100,000 or whatever it was.

I'm using Maya 4.5 on Windows 2000 on an AMD Athlon XP2100+ 1.73ghz clocked down to 1.3ghz (summer weather, no AC, 85+ degrees inside, overheats CPU despite all fans), 512mb SDRAM, etc...

Can anyone help me? This is for something for work that I really need to be busting ass on. :\

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the connection between the cage and the subd has been lost - can you reconvert it to subdiv ?

Actually, I started over and switched to using CPS tools and I don't have the problem anymore...

One new problem though is that I'm trying to extrude one part of the model, and when I switch to using the transform tool instead of the little scaling transform handles of the extrude tool, regardless of what I have selected, when I move my newly extruded selection, all of the vertices down the center line of the model move along with my polygonal selection. It's not a normal movement either, it seems like the transform values are affected by how far away I move it from the model... i.e., the farther I move it, the farther some of the vertices move, so the model gets distorted horribly. I've had this happen before with other selections on other models... what IS this?
