hi guys

i m using zbrush 3.1 i had given details to my model and export it in obj format my file size of obj is around 295 mb when i import it into 3d max it says out of memory
but when i bring it in low sub division , Max open the file but i m loosing my detail work

does any one know how to reduce the size of obj without decreasing it subdivision

1 gb ram
dual core 3.0 ghz
240gb hard disk

It wouldnt matter if you zipped the file in all eternity. It still has to be read as raw data in the end. And memory would run out.

Go down in subdiv level until max can handle the filesize perhaps?
Or replace the finest of details with a bumpmap (for instance, import lvl 5, and create a bump/dispmap to do the rest).

You can also split the mesh. Ctrl+shift-hide the mesh -> Polygroups/grp visible. And in the ->subtools/GrpSplit. This will split the mesh in different subtools. However, in the end, the memory will probably run out eventually. But this can help if you wish to sample normalmaps/occ maps and so forth.
