catchcat 04-08-2003, 07:08 PM hi:
i want to model a cup (easy thing ? :) ),and i used line to draw the outline then lathe ,meshsmooth ,but it always has a small hole in the bottom of the cup (i think is the position where the line begin ),so how to solve that or other good method ?
My English is poor ,hope u can go through it .
Look foward to ur reply,thanks.

You can goto the bottom of your stack...this should be "line" or "editable spline" and go into the "vertex subobject mode". grab that bottom vertice of the cup and move it into the center.
or
add an "editable mesh" modifier to the top of your stack but below the "mesh smooth" modifier and grab all those bottom vertices that make up the hole and weld them together. do the inside and the outside of the cup seperately of course.

Go to your object placement thing by right clicking the click and drag icon. Than make sure its at 0,0,0 that should work.

maybe this is a good place for beginner questions :)
anyways im having the following problem, i did some 3dstudio max5 tutorials, from the tutorials they provided, and im currently trying to do the "fiat 500" tutorial from karabo (http://www.dutch-gamers.nl/~karabo/tutorials/car/page4.html) is the place i am right now, and he is talking about making ur plane split in half by making a cut from the top edge to the bottom edge.
Only problem is in the turorial says that it should be split right in the middle now but i can't align the "cutline" in the middle, what am i doing wrong?
Sorry for my bad english by the way....

hi:
thanks for help,i get the point and solve it.
but perhaps i can not describe it correctly,i try again:i first
created a line using for the radius of cup's bottom, then created other lines ..then lathe, choose align:min, then the center of buttom has a small hole(some vertexs but not only one),why?,is the lathe's feature?

Can you post a screen shot of it?
I think, as others have mentioned, the simple fix would be to fence the vertices (vertii?) and Weld them together to create one vertex.
just a thought, wouldn't it have to do with the "weld core" option of the lathe modifier ?

If I undestood well, it is way more simple:
Just check the "weld core" option in the lathe modifier.
and yes, it is "vertices", you are right.
*edit* damn, someone was quicker than I *edit*
when you draw your spline go into the vertex sub object mode and select the verts where you want them to be in the centre, then apply the lathe modifer, it will always place the lathe axis on them then, and you will never have a hole unless u want one :)
credit goes to aj23 for the tip
