View Full Version : trouble with seams
hiddnfox 04-08-2003, 05:50 PM ive built a helmet for a poser figure im learning maya 3.0 with and am having trouble getting rid of the seam down the middle of it.
i used split polygon and so both sides are equal but when ive tried to merge multiple edges it doesnt do it and just tell me to look at my script editor.
any help? ive got other projects that dont seem to want to get rid of the seems either
thanks!

If you mirrored with a duplicate/scale -1 it reverses the normals on the polygon surface. You need to reverse them on the mirrored side otherwise it won't weld the edges. Use the mirror funtion in the polygon menu for now on. It takes care of this for you

i select one side of the helmet (the mirrored side) and select it in polygon (do i need to combine first?) then i choose merge and it says to look at script editor. for some reason it doesnt want to join together into a seamless object

line up your vertices, then edit - polys - combine. merge mult edges should then work, provided your vert/edge count is congruent. you might also try merge edge tool

Yes, you need to combine first. Also go into the settings for the merge edges and make the tollerance .1 or .01(depending on the scale of your scene).
