Hi all,
i reworked the Thinking Particles presets that were distributed with TP. On the MAXON website (http://www.maxon.net/pages/download/stuff_e.html) you will find the downloads for the library file as well as the HTML documentation with example files. Make sure to download the documentation too, since it makes understanding how to work much easier.
The library file is meant to be used with R10 and R10.5

Have fun
Björn

Thanks Srek!

The previews look very nice and are easy to "read" in the browser.

This is really well done, Srek. Much to study, here.

i like example 10 - the emitter which uses a sound effector.

Is there a way to recreate this example without the sound effector? For example, what if I want the particles to emit outwards with the same "look" as in example 10 (with the curved arch), but every 1 second? Not like in example 10 in which the beat is 1-1-2-2, but more like 1-1-1-1?

There must be a way to set this up without needing an audio file.

Excellent. Many thanks, Björn!

BTW, am I the only one who finds the third example in the Organic Shader Library a little risqué? Looks kind of like a prop from "Nip & Tuck" to me. ;)

you think the mole/wart looks like a nipple? dude whens the last time you looked at a nipple. There is an actual nipple preset in there too that is far more like a nipple.

Great resource!

As always *the* place to look for when it comes to find inspiration with TP!

Thanks again

You can just keyframe a TP Standard Emitter. Either the Enable state or the particle count will do fine.

The presets are not coming up in 10.111 (Mac OS X). I see a folder in the Content Browser that says Thinking Particles 3.0, but the folder appears to be empty. I tried the same library file in the 10.5 demo and it works?

Sorry about that... using Refresh in the view menu cleared up the problem.

Thanks Srek. I was trying to create this effect using Mograph (see thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=548108)). But I'm not liking the end result. Basically, I have a raygun-type weapon. I want these rings to fire out from the raygun in a consistent pulsating manner, and I want them to expand/grow as they fly forward.

Here's my setup ...

And here's how it looks when played out. One problem, though - I want the rings to keep the same "pipe radius." When they first emit they're fat. Towards the end of the taper they become skinny. I want them to always stay skinny!

Build the ring from a Sweep NURBS with the large circles radius animated from small to large. Then use the SweepNURBS as shape for TP. The animation of the radius will play over the particle lifetime.

I must be doing something wrong. I dropped two circle splines into a Sweep NURBS. At Frame 0 I set the circle's radius = 1m. At Frame 180 I set it to 6m. But when I drop the Sweep NURBS into the Emitter's Shape, the keyframed circle radius seems to go away. At Frame 0 it's 1m, but at Frame 180 it shows up as also being 1m.

And when I delete the keyframes altogether I still get the same results when the rings are emitted - meaning, the keyframed version is no different than the non-keyframed version.

The end result is better than before, but the rings' radius starts out flat.

I'm probably splitting hairs. It looks go enough. Thanks Srek.

Probably after you've gone to bed! :scream: I'm at work now. The scene's on my home computer. I'll upload it when I get back home ... in eight hours.

Thanks Srek. Sorry for highjacking this thread.

Anybody else not seeing the TP 3.0 presets in 10.5/OSX?

I see them just fine in 10.111, but in 10.5 I see the new folder, but it appears to be empty.

I also seem to have lost the sketch presets and the PZDM primitives in 10.5 (same thing, works in 10.111, but in 10.5...see the folder, seems empty).

I tried "refresh" and "clean up database".

This is due to the limitation as to the number of lib4d files you can have:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=552780&highlight=lib4d

A Content Browser show-stopper, I should say.

But regardless: thanks for the presets, Srek! :)
