View Full Version : Mapping a sphere
Giant_Robo 04-08-2003, 04:06 PM I remember reading somewhere that there is a way to map a sphere without stretching the image beyond recognition. If anybody can help me out it would be much appreciated. I have a ying yang symbol I am trying to place on a sphere but, it doesnt look much like it when its mapped on. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

On a simple surface like a sphere, with a single logo image, a planar UV should work fine.
If you want to get more complex, like plastering the sphere with stickers, then projection paint is one way to go. Deep Paint 3D does this, as does the Power Stamper plugin for 3ds max, as does the TextureMaster script for ZBrush.
TextureMaster comes with a really cool real-time tutorial, so you can see projection paint in action (or at least ZBrush's version of it). Works with the demo of ZBrush, if I'm not mistaken.
