I want to export a 3dsmax mesh to solidworks, is there nobody who knows how to do that?

IŽve been struggling with this question some time now, so I would realy apreciate an answer :)

well, what formats will solidworks support for importing? Genrally speaking I've found that I can move most 3ds max models into cads via STL or IGES

You may want to post this in the 3ds max forum. (It'll probably be moved by a mod.)

Anyway, does Solidworks support DWG or DXF files? If so you could export out of max via that and into SW. The translation may be a bit iffy though. Even AutoCAD files into/out of max sometime run afoul.

STL will work

STL will work. fairly well, but you won't have any associativity. (did I spell that right?).

The newer version (2003) does a decent job of importing DWG's. You can Export from Max as a dwg and import it, but it will treat the entire mesh as one part.

By the way, just in case anyone is wondering....You can export Solidworks assemblies into MAX by using the VRML export. It imports failry clean, although ..once again it treats the entire assembly as a single part.

It isn't perfect, but it's cheaper than buying Polytrans and the CAD module. Unfortunately Polytrans AND Deep Exploration charge @ $500 extra for Solidwokrs import and export.:annoyed:

BTW Signal To Noise.....

I have noticed with importing ACAD into MAX that the key factor is the layers. If anything is screwy in the layers you use it all goes to hell. I have had to go back and put certain objects in their own layers just so that I could map them properly.

Layers baby!!...Layers

Yup, way back I came across a great article about the AutoCAD to Max transition in Cadence magazine and they mentioned layers. It turned out to be a lifesaver. That is, if you yourself do the CAD work or give explicit details to the CAD designer to ensure you'll get a good, relatively trouble-free import.

Thanks alot guys, i dont think thoose things worked last time i tested but iŽll do that again of course (when i am at school that is)
oh and i made a vb program that remakes 3dsmax wrml files to solidworks supported wrml files, maybe you want to test it?
