Hi everybody,

I am going to do this one. I might do commision shot (it's time to do some live action stuff with my handy cam and subject is very nice, interesting and challanging) Or might do freeform entry.

Here is just a very quick test with max reactor cloth(i just used default settings) and softbody dynamics to test ballon tearing effect. I know it's not that accurate and i can hide that with water coming out from balloon to fool the eye.

Hey Jigu,

So how's your tests coming on? How did you manage the tearing effect? did you use two seperate meshes? I read somewhere when Max 9 came out that there was a tearing feature in cloth, i've look all through the dials and help files but no luck, any ideas?

Good luck

- Dave.

hey dave,

yes they are two different meshes. I think i might split the balloon in two parts but before that i am going to shoot some falling balloon footage.

Here is the balloon tearing test without water.(will add water soon.) Though it needs to refine a bit.

I am using reference from gettyimages.com and i want to put the link to reference but right now i am unable to open that site due to slow net.

Nice work! I assume that last one was an animated alpha map and then a bait-n-switch to the balloon piece? That's the technique I'm planning on using.

@CaptainBarbosa : Yes that's the concept idea i am using but i am not using alpha maps but infact geometry is tearing(i.e. getting deleted).

Here is the final entry for WaterBalloon FxWars challange. I created and rendered in max 2008 and i didn't use any plugins.I chose to create slow motion waterballoon explosion shot which supposed to be captured by high speed camera.
Balloon model is by RobertoOrtiz.
