You'll have to first merge the two objects if you want to weld points between them. To do that select them both (Shift-Click) and do a Function-->Connect. Then you can go into point editing mode and both objects will be active. From there you can use the Structure-->Weld command to combine points. You might want to pick up the Weld Tools plugin from Plugin Cafe. It gives you a couple of extra options for final placement of the welded points.
