hello there renderers! ive worked with maya a ling time now, but havent got much to do with the shading/texturing stuff, and i have modelled a spider, and i need to texture it, i did a basic texture, and tried fast sss skin, it gives me the light plastic effect, i cant feel anything organic about it, so could anyone guide me where to go from here? any tutorials or anythin that cld help me? whether its texturing or shading im open to suggestions to make the best out of this, thanks :D

The MiSSS shaders require some setup, linking the lightmap and what-not. Here's a script (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/mel_scripts/rendering/mental_ray/4421.html) that helps with that, there are lots of tuts online that explain the manual way too. Scale is also an issue with that shader.

thanks 4 ur fast reply, yeah i know about the linking, good to know bt the scale tho, lol

but wat i wanted is to know like what each of the parameters does and be able to customize it to the way i want,

another thing, if i wanted the skin to be very translucent, with dirt under the skin, is that achievable, and how?
